I've just finished two new bags for Mollie.
Lethe is one of the several rivers that ran through the Greek realm of Hades. If you drank from it, you forgot everything. When I was sewing this one, I was apparently hitting the Lethe sauce because I forgot rule #1 in sewing, check it twice, sew once! The ribbon on the handle should have faced outward, not inward. It still looks great and functions fine, just not what I had in mind when I made it.
This is a small clutch size bag with a shoulder strap in pink batik. The flap is a handmade happy accident from my friend Mollie. It's actually one of the swab cloths she uses to mop up extra paint when creating her gorgeous fat quarters. The entire bag is decorated with a couched wool soy dyed yarn. The front flap has a few crocheted forget-me-nots ... which were obviously completely impotent in regards to my memory functionality! Inside is a small pocket made from the swab cloth. The bag is lined in a mottled dusty rose.
The body of the bag has very stiff interfacing, but the flap is softer. It closes with a magnetic snap under the flap. Measures 10.5" wide x 5.5" high. Strap length is about 20" from bag to shoulder.
Iris Has Her Eyes on You
Keep an eye on the world around you with this observant tote. A teacher or student would LOVE this bag!
Mollie sent me this incredible piece of one of a kind hand painted eyeball fabric. It told me it wanted to be the star of the show, so I made an abstract square collage on both sides of this hefty navy blue tote. The edges are left raw and are meant to fray with use. A varigated blue suede yarn is couched around the sides to frame the many eyes.
The inside has both a large zip pocket and a double stacked divided pocket. Lots of room to stash stuff.
Measuring in at 11" wide by 12.5" high by 2.5" deep, it has a plastic canvas insert in the base to give it a stiff bottom. Handles are a comfortable 20" from bag top to shoulder. The blue is a pants weight bottom fabric. I think it might be twill.
