I've been working a lot on site in the last two weeks and had very little time to sew. It was GREAT to be able to sit at my machine this weekend ... and look what's coming out!

Viridan Bag with all the pieces and hardware on the sewing table.

Viridan front panel with bead accent.

Viridian is a lush bag with striking outer patchwork panels with green bases and brown/tan tops. I was feeling very forest/earthy. I added a row of bead work as accent on the front panel. The large lampwork glass beads are from Trev over at Geosoul Arts and match the colors so perfectly.

Viridian is a medium size version of the same pattern I made Tintaglia from. Tintaglia is the large size. Clarice was the small size. Tintaglia with large outer pocket on back of bag. Great for slipping in notebook and papers.

I am trying out a recessed zipper on the inside and seriously debating if I want to put a large green pocket on the back panel, almost as large as shown on Tintaglia above.

On one hand, the functionality of the pocket on this particular bag design is very good. You can slip all kinds of things into it. On the other, it would cover up my patchwork. What does everyone think?

With the pocket. Not as big as the one on Tintaglia, but still big enough for a small notebook and phone.
Without the pocket.

I also tried out another pattern out, Soft Shoulders Ahead from freesewing patterns.com. I had to draft it to full size from a small illustration with grid lines and given that, it came out pretty well. I guess since it's free they don't include the pieces for you. The PDF was locked, so I couldn't even just scale them up in Illustrator. A lot of work for a bag I am not sure I like and I probably won't be making many more of their bags. They do offer paid patterns, but I wonder if they include pattern pieces for those? I certainly wouldn't pay for something then have to draft my own pieces.

The criss-cross look is nice, but the main body of the bag seems too shallow, but that is an easy fix. Holly claimed the bag the finished bag. She just swooned over the orange. It's actually reversible. It's worn cross body, but I am not sure I like how wide the strap is and I may fix that for the next version.

LOVE the patchwork on that bag! As nice as a pocket would be...it may be too pretty to cover up...if you really want one - just slide it inside to keep the pretty :)

And yeah - paying for a pattern & then drafting it yourself? not so much fun.
